Day 15: St. Etienne de Tinée to Roya
Well, that was our last night camping! Of course there was a thunderstorm during the night so we had to wait for the tent to dry. Once it was completely 100% dry, we packed it up together with the sleeping bag, mats and other camping gear and dropped it off at the post office. We’d had a look at the map and realised there would be no further campsites.
With barely any weight on our backs we flew up to Auron. The first section was along small roads in the Tinée valley. It was surprisingly pleasant, past gardens along a path overhanging with fruit trees. Then there was a steepish rocky path and a dirt track before we reached Auron. This is another ghastly ski resort but it was a good excuse to have an ice cream break while I covered my feet in Compeed.
From Auron we headed up the ski slopes (boring!) where the mountain bikers did their best to knock us down. From the Col du Blainon it was just a short descent down to Roya where we stayed in the gîte. It was almost empty. Just us, two other hikers and half a million flies.
